The Algarve has more good sunsets per kilometre of coastline than anywhere I know. What it also has is a lot of bars that charge premium prices for views they've done nothing to earn. These ones have earned it.

The benchmark. A cliff-edge terrace in Albufeira old town with cocktails built from local ingredients. The two front-row tables look directly out over the Atlantic. Reserve them or arrive at 4pm — there's no middle option.
The Ria Formosa stretches out in front of you, the light turns gold, and the wine is five euros. It's a different kind of sunset — wider, warmer, the wetlands doing something the sea cliffs don't. Arrive by 6pm. It closes early.

Perched above an ochre cliff on the edge of the Atlantic. Champagne, spirits, cocktails — all at luxury resort prices. The view is genuinely jaw-dropping, which is the only reason to mention it. Booking essential. Budget for €€€€+.
Panoramic views over Tavira's terracotta rooftops, the Gilão river, and the countryside beyond. Creative cocktails at prices that make Lagos look overpriced. The least-visited of the five on this list, which is its own recommendation.
The Algarve sells sunsets the way it sells everything: at a premium, with variable quality. The distinguishing factor isn't the view — most cliff-top bars in this region have a decent one. It's what they do with the drink while you're watching.
Sal Rosa is the clearest example of this done right. The cocktails would be worth having in a room with no windows. The terrace is the bonus, not the product. LAB Terrace is the opposite: the setting is almost unfair (Ria Formosa wetlands at golden hour) and the wine at five euros keeps the bar honest about not overcharging for it. Both approaches work.
Avoid: any bar with 'sunset' in the name that you've never heard mentioned in another context. In the Algarve, that's a reliable signal for tourist markup with mediocre execution. The bars on this list were not built around the view.
