Cabanas de Tavira is the kind of place you end up going back to. Small, quiet, a beautiful beach accessible by water taxi across the lagoon, and a seafront strip that doesn't overdo it. Quasi Bar is on that strip and is the most obvious reason to still be in Cabanas after the beach closes.

The rooftop is the draw. You're looking out over the Ria Formosa — a protected lagoon that runs along the east Algarve coast — to the long barrier islands that separate it from the Atlantic. At dusk this view is genuinely impressive, and the bar is open from 6pm so you can catch the whole thing without rushing.

The ground floor is a proper pub: darker, louder, more local, good for a beer and a conversation. The two floors work well together — start on the rooftop, move downstairs when the DJ starts and you want volume.

The honest catch

Cabanas is 5km east of Tavira town. You need a car or a taxi. If you're based in central Tavira without transport, this takes planning. That's not the bar's fault — it's geography. Build it into your day rather than treating it as a spontaneous second stop.

It's also more of a drinks bar than a cocktail bar. The menu is good but not specialist. If you want serious mixology, Arcada in Tavira town is the better call. Quasi is for views, atmosphere, and a DJ on a Friday night.

In low season the rooftop terrace may be closed or reduced. Check Instagram @quasi_bar before making the drive.

  The view earns the drink. A gin and tonic or a Spritz on the rooftop as the light goes warm and the lagoon turns orange. That's the reason you're here.

  They rotate seasonals. Ask what's current — it's usually the thing the staff are most enthusiastic about, which is a reliable indicator.

Who it's for

• Sunset drink with sea views? Yes — one of the better Ria Formosa views in the region.
• DJ nights? Yes — Friday and Saturday from 11pm, rooftop.
• Craft cocktail focus? No — go to Arcada in Tavira for that.
• With a car? Yes, easiest. 5km from Tavira town.
• Late night? Fri–Sat till 3am. Good option when everything in Tavira proper has closed.

How to get there

Drive east from Tavira on the N125 for about 5km towards Cabanas de Tavira. Follow the road to the seafront. Parking on the seafront road is usually available outside peak summer. In July–August, arrive early or park slightly outside the village centre and walk.
